Climate Change & Environmental Protection

Climate change remains one of the greatest challenges affecting communities across Somalia. Recurring droughts, floods, environmental degradation, and loss of livelihoods disproportionately impact women, children, and vulnerable populations.

The Women’s Initiative for Climate Action and Peace (WICAP) works across Southwest State, Jubaland, Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and other regions of Somalia to strengthen community resilience, promote environmental sustainability, and support women-led climate solutions.

Our Objectives:

  • Build community resilience to climate shocks

  • Promote sustainable environmental practices

  • Integrate gender perspectives into climate policies

  • Strengthen local climate adaptation systems

Our Key Activities:

  • Community climate awareness campaigns

  • Climate-smart agriculture training

  • Reforestation and tree-planting initiatives

  • Drought mitigation programs

  • Environmental conservation education

  • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) training

  • Water resource management initiatives

Expected Impact:

Stronger, climate-resilient communities where women actively lead environmental protection and sustainable development efforts.
